At last! Concrete is poured.

Following the infamous Flood of 2002 and rain that followed it, things finally dried out enough to finish excavating and building the forms for the foundation. Since our driveway is too steep for concrete trucks to negotiate safely, concrete had to be pumped from the top of the driveway down to the foundation.

About 3:00 am on July 19th, the concrete pump and 250 feet of pipe arrived and were set up for the pour. The first concrete trucks arrived and pumping started around 4:00 am. By the end of the day, 10 trucks had come and gone, leaving about 100 cubic yards of concrete in the foundation. Work wrapped up around 9:30 that night - the end of a very long day.

By early the next morning, most of the forms
have been removed, and cleanup is under way.

We're able to climb our front stairs, and
stand on our porch for the first time
- an exciting moment for us.

From the porch, which is at the level of the
main floor, we get a good view of the river
over the foundation for the master suite.
