Finishing the rainwater system - Smith-Zimmerman home

Smith-Zimmerman Waterworks...

Finally, after many rain delays in our construction, the gutters were installed, completing our rainwater collection system.

We had record low rainfall until mid-January when a 3.1" rainfall provided 7,800 gallons of water. A good start - finally.

The Galvalume gutters
are fabricated...

...carried up to the roof...

...and installed.

Downspouts drain into...

...four inch PVC pipes...

...that direct water through one of four
.28 mm. German-made filters that
remove leaves, pollen, etc.

From the filters, the water flows into two 1,550 gal.
"surge" tanks below the house. A submersible pump
in the far tank sends the water up the hill...

...through a large sand filter,
then into the 15,000 gallon
storage cistern in the background.

When we turn on a faucet in the house,
a jet pump sends water from the cistern...

...through a 5 micron particle filter,
a 3 micron charcoal filter, and
a UV light sterilizing filter before
it reaches the house.
