More progress...

During the week of June 30th the concrete floors were scored and stained, and the windows were installed.

First, a diagonal pattern of three
foot squares was scored into
the living and dining room
floors using a diamond blade

Next the concrete floors were
smoothed and cleaned thoroughly.

An acid stain was then applied and
allowed to react with the concrete.
Better floors through chemistry...

By the next morning, the desired color
was achieved and the chemical reaction
was halted by rinsing the floor with water.

An acrylic sealer was then
applied. The color is a close
match to the gold in the
limestone blocks.

We quickly covered the floors with
plastic and masonite to protect
them during the rest of
the construction.

Installation of our windows
started the same day.

The large dogrun windows were
the most challenging.

Here, the last of the
windows is installed.

The awning style windows
are designed to remain
open in the rain.

The living and dining room windows really
change the feeling of the rooms
--still very open to the outdoors but cozier.
